Sunglasses trends 2025: Be a trendsetter this summer

One thing was clear from the spring/summer 2025 shows: when it comes to eyewear this season, bigger is definitely better. While past Fashion Weeks have favoured small frames and narrow cat-eye styles, 2025 is all about making a statement with oversized frames, wraparounds and shield sunglasses.

From Prada with its gigantic diamond-shaped shades at Milan Fashion Week to Balenciaga with its mask-like eyewear at Paris Fashion Week, many designers emphasised conspicuous frames. Let’s take a look at the trends that will set your summer alight.

Oversized aviators

The classic aviator is bigger and bolder than ever this season. Loewe and Marni both showcased takes on this timeless look, pairing an oversized version of the teardrop shape with sleek metal frames. Green lenses added a modern twist on the Loewe catwalk, while the Marni aviators had a more angular feel. Sunglasses such as the DITA Moddict are a great option for those seeking an oversized aviator with the elegance of a lightweight frame and the functionality of a polarised lens.

Geometric frames

Following the stir caused by the eyewear on Prada’s runway, large geometric frames are sure to be a go-to style this season. Complemented by tinted lenses, this look blends nostalgia with futurism, creating a daring aesthetic that won’t fail to get you noticed. Celebs such as Gwendoline Christie have already been spotted turning heads with such standout accessories. For those who want to wear an understated version of this look, Garrett Leight offers some stylish yet not prohibitively expensive sunglasses such as Goldie Sun, which acknowledge the geometric trend effortlessly.

Wraparounds

Often the preserve of sports stars and athletes such as Olympic silver medallist Josh Kerr, wraparounds are making a true statement this summer. The style blends functionality and comfort with a quirky, ‘dadcore’ feel that’s seen a recent surge in popularity. While the eyebrow-covering mask sunglasses on Balenciaga’s runway will be a bit much for some, Dior’s VERYDIOR M1U is a perfect alternative, striking a balance between sporty and chic.

Shield shades
Shield shades are a surefire way to get noticed this summer. Making an appearance on the Luar runway at New York Fashion Week, they amplify any outfit with their ‘too cool for traditional’ vibe. These sunglasses are characterised by a single lens that covers both eyes, and create maximum drama when teamed with thick frames or coloured lenses.

Colourful frames

While the key theme of runway eyewear in the latest Fashion Weeks was ‘oversized’, we also saw a healthy amount of colour. Miu Miu in particular showcased some vibrant frames in Paris, creating a playful and retro look. Elevate any outfit with a splash of sunny yellow, bright purple or cherry red this season; Garrett Leight’s striking Jacqueline Sun frames are the ideal choice.
