Myopia
WHAT IS MYOPIA?
Myopia is the inability to see things clearly unless they're relatively close to your eyes. Also called nearsightedness or shortsightedness, myopia is the most common refractive error among children and young adults.
WHY DOES IT OCCUR?
Myopia occurs when the eyeball is too long. So, the distance between the cornea -the clear window at the front of the eye- and the retina -the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye- is too far apart. This means that short- sightedness develops because light rays focus in front of the retina instead of on the retina, which causes blurry vision.
WHICH ARE ITS SYMPTOMS?
Symptoms include blurry vision when looking at distant objects, the need to squint or partially close the eyelids to see clearly, headaches caused by eyestrain and difficulty seeing while driving a vehicle, especially at night.
